Daiya ~ Dairy Free Cheese Review & Giveaway

Daiya is a dairy-free foods company that specializes in products for those with restricted diets (ie. Vegan, kosher, allergies, etc.)  If any of that applies to you or someone you know, keep reading! 😉

Recently, I got the chance to try Daiya cheddar style shreds.  It was not hard to find them in the organic & specialty section of the grocery store. Honestly, I had no idea what I was going to make even with all of the featured recipes on Daiya’s site. While they all looked delicious, I couldn’t stop thinking about a very simple & delicious dish I had at a restaurant recently. It’s nothing more than spinach with shredded cheese melted on it.  (Who doesn’t like veggies with cheese??  Or in this review’s case: cheddar style shreds)

I didn’t have any frozen spinach on hand, so I opened 2 cans of it and put it evenly across the bottom of an oven safe casserole dish.

Then I just sprinkled an even amount to my liking on top of the spinach.

Stuck that in a 350′ oven until the cheese melted — I did not time it, I just ‘guesstimated’ and checked on it in 2-3 minute intervals.

Yummmmmmy!!

Even if you can still safely consume dairy products, this is a yummy & healthy alternative to your typical, everyday cheese products.  I did not notice a difference in taste.  It was actually very good.  One positive thing I noticed is it did not upset my stomach with grease either.  I do have a sensitivity to dairy at times and I can tell you this did not bother me at all (in the way that a regular cheese with lactose/dairy might).

There are many great things about Daiya products.

Here are a few about Daiya Cheddar Shreds:

  •  Cholesterol free
  • Trans fat free
  • Dairy free
  • Free of all animal products (vegan)
  • Free of common allergens including: dairy (casein and lactose), soy, gluten, eggs, peanuts and tree nuts (excluding coconut)
  • Kosher

Disclosure: I was provided with a free product coupon to conduct my review in exchange for an honest review.  I was not compensated monetarily.  All opinions are my own and true to my experience.  Thank you ~ Jenn

I think the artichoke and spinach dip sounds good. I have never tried making that for my boys with milk allergies but I bet they would love it!
